Thrice’s Major/Minor deals with extreme ups and downs in the band members' personal lives — marriages, deaths, and births. Taking obvious queues from Rothko, the austere artwork intends to make the viewer feel disoriented.
The packaging includes CD and LP versions printed on thinner uncoated paper stocks to accelerate the aging process of the paper, adding to the extreme textures over time. Metallic gold, silver, and blue inks are used throughout. Both formats are packaged in gatefold jackets with printed inner sleeves. The CD version includes a 12-page booklet, while the initial vinyl pressing included a print of the album cover.
